WHY DOES ST. PETERSBURG NEED NEW TERRITORY? Land Reclaimation:

General project area - 476.7 ha, Water - 29.7 ha, Territory boarding the blocks - 218.3 ha, Including: Apartment buildings - 85.4 ha, Public buildings - 66 ha, The Marine Passanger Port and ship berths - 35.9 ha, Green zone and general purpose - 19.5 ha, Engineering and transportation infrastructure - 11.5 ha. The new land will be created using modern, state-of-the-art land reclamation technology. The sand used in the reclamation is extracted from offshore fields. This work is being executed by a consortium of Russian and international companies. Consolidation of the reclaimed ground will take 6-9 months, which allows for a quick start on the construction. Environmental monitoring is being carried out by the Konto auditing company.. The territory's new social and business district will be located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and will have a number of advantages. We are creating new, open space without tearing down any existing buildings. It also has a wide range of well thought-out engineering solutions, a minimum of town zoning restrictions, and has a free legal status. The new district will be situated in close proximity to the city's historic centre. The following real estate facilities will be located on the new territory:
Residential areas Retail and service, restaurants and entertainment and leisure centres Educational institutions A new business district for St. Petersburg Hotels An exhibition hall and congress centre Museums, theatres and other cultural facilities Construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2007. The St. Petersburg Western High Speed Diameter, and the Inner and Central Arched Roads will provide access to the site. It will take 10 minutes to get to the historical centre and only 15 minutes to reach the airport. It will be easily accessible from St. Petersburg's residential districts and two metro stations are scheduled to be constructed near the site. Tourists will be able to use river transport during the navigation season and yacht berths will be provided.
