WHY DOES ST. PETERSBURG NEED NEW TERRITORY?

Saint-Petersburg currently has no modern business district, which prevents large companies from locating their headquarters, offices and other facilities here.

The new green area located on the new territories of reclaimed land is essentially an alternative to the adverse high-density development encroaching on the historical centre of the city.

The historic centre of St. Petersburg is on UNESCO's World Heritage Monument List. The Marine Facade Project will help to preserve the unique and authentic nature of the city centre. The new business district is reminiscent of La Defense in Paris, and located only six kilometres from the city centre. Being located close to the historical centre, it will sustain the load of the future economic and political development of the city.

 

According to scientific surveys carried out by special-purpose institutes, the Neva Bay has hydrological conditions that, over the course of time, new natural dry land will be formed. Land reclamation in this part of the Gulf of Finland promotes the natural development of land.

Public buildings - 66 ha,

The Marine Passanger Port and ship berths - 35.9 ha,

Green zone and general purpose - 19.5 ha,

Engineering and transportation infrastructure - 11.5 ha.

Roadwork improvements- 228.7 ha,

Including the technical zone of the Western High Speed Diameter (express road) - 65.8 ha.



Land Reclamation Technology

The new land will be created using modern, state-of-the-art land reclamation technology. The sand used in the reclamation is extracted from offshore fields. This work is being executed by a consortium of Russian and international companies.


Consolidation of the reclaimed ground will take 6-9 months, which allows for a quick start on the construction.

Environmental monitoring is being carried out by the Konto auditing company..

The territory's new social and business district will be located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and will have a number of advantages.

We are creating new, open space without tearing down any existing buildings. It also has a wide range of well thought-out engineering solutions, a minimum of town zoning restrictions, and has a free legal status.

The new district will be situated in close proximity to the city's historic centre.

Land Use Plan

Construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2007. The St. Petersburg Western High Speed Diameter, and the Inner and Central Arched Roads will provide access to the site. It will take 10 minutes to get to the historical centre and only 15 minutes to reach the airport. It will be easily accessible from St. Petersburg's residential districts and two metro stations are scheduled to be constructed near the site. Tourists will be able to use river transport during the navigation season and yacht berths will be provided.
